Students of the Spanish as a Foreign Language program immerse themselves in Dominican culture at the 2024 Book Fair

The students of the Spanish as a Foreign Language program had a unique experience participating in the 2024 Book Fair, an event that celebrates literature and culture in the Dominican Republic. During their visit, they had the opportunity to explore local and international literary traditions, interact with other attendees, and discover culturally significant topics.

International Education Week 2024: A Unique Opportunity to Study in the United States

The U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo, in collaboration with the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano (ICDA) and EducationUSA, is preparing to celebrate International Education Week 2024. This event will offer a series of panels, workshops, and informational sessions for those interested in studying in the United States.
Inauguration and On-Site Activities
The event agenda kicks off on Thursday, November 14th at 5:00 p.m. with the panel “Find Your Ideal University in the U.S.” at the Lincoln Library, followed by a fair with representatives from various U.S. universities at the ICDA Student Plaza from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. That day, the library will also host the panel “Practical Guide for Obtaining a Student Visa in the U.S.” at 7:00 p.m.
Virtual Sessions to Facilitate the Admission Process
During the week, several virtual sessions will be held to ease the admission process to U.S. universities. The program includes:
Monday, November 18th: Webinar “Financing Your Studies in the United States” (6:00 p.m.)
Tuesday, November 19th: Webinar “Preparing for Standardized Tests” (6:00 p.m.)
Wednesday, November 20th: Virtual workshop “Completing Your University Application in the United States” (7:00 p.m.)
These sessions will cover information from financial planning to the details of completing a university application, providing practical guidance and valuable resources.

They inaugurate the art exhibition ‘Diaspora’ at the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano

On October 10, the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano (ICDA) and the cultural direction opened their exhibition hall for “Diáspora,” a notable art exhibit featuring 14 Latin American visual artists. The exhibition aims to create an artistic dialogue with the public, exploring themes related to cultural encounters, emigration challenges, and the guiding lights for those seeking new opportunities in welcoming cities.
The opening ceremony was led by Sofía Otero, cultural director of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano, and Julia Castillo, director of the Centro Cultural Perelló Durante. They were also joined by María Fals, educator and art critic.
Artists such as Rebeca Flores, Monique Johnson, Humberto Grullón, Ramón Santiago, Luis Cepeda, Raphael Díaz, Vladimir Sosa, Nilton Cárdenas, Rafael Trinidad, Pablo Mijares, Julia Castillo, Amalia González, Salvador Sánchez, and Ángel Cajigas Arbelo came together to deeply reflect on diversity, identity, and the continuous search for meaning in a migration context through their works.
The ICDA thanks the Centro Cultural Perelló for including us in this new edition, as well as all the attendees who participated in the inauguration. “Diáspora” will be open to the public until November 15, 2024, in the exhibition hall of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano.
Inauguration of the Exhibition ‘History that Unites Us: Let the Liberty Bell Ring’ at the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano

At an emotional event, the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic, Patricia Aguilera, formally introduced a group of talented artists and their impactful works as part of the cultural project ‘Histories that Unite Us: Let the Liberty Bell Ring.’
The event, held in an atmosphere of celebration and reflection, brought together various artists and notable personalities. During the presentation, it was explored how art becomes a powerful medium to promote unity, freedom, and democratic values essential for the development and strengthening of society.
This exhibition not only invites aesthetic appreciation but also introspection and dialogue about the values that connect us as human beings. The Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano opens its thirteenth language school campus on Jacobo Majluta

Since its founding in 1947, the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano has positioned itself as a benchmark in English language teaching, establishing high standards of quality and innovation.
With this mission, for more than 77 years it has provided excellent education in various locations across the country, both in-person and through virtual programs, reaching students in remote areas and outside the Dominican Republic. With the opening of its new Language School campus in Santo Domingo Norte, it will offer residents of the area its English programs for children, youth, and adults at different times, in the facilities of the Colegio Iberoamericano de Santo Domingo, located on Av. Jacobo Majluta, Residencial Colinas del Arroyo II.
This new center joins the 12 campuses already established in the Distrito Nacional, Zona Oriental, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Higüey, Baní, and San Francisco de Macorís.
The inaugural ceremony was led by the executive director of the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano, Ing. Ramón Sosa, who gave the main speech. It also featured the participation of authorities from the province of Santo Domingo Norte, representatives of the Colegio Iberoamericano, as well as members of the ICDA educational community, including parents, students, and teaching and administrative staff.
The blessing of the new facilities was performed by Father José Altagracia Rosario, from the parishes of Santa Virginia and San Pablo Sexto. With the opening of this new campus, the ICDA reiterates its commitment to continue transforming lives through education.
Pedro Farías-Nardi reveals Cuba’s hidden devotion in the 11th edition of PhotoImagen

The Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano, through its Cultural Department, has opened its doors to a moving exhibition that explores the spiritual richness and resilience of daily life in Cuba. Pedro Farías-Nardi, a renowned photographer and visual artist, presents his new show titled “Faith and Devotion” as part of the 11th edition of PhotoImagen. This exhibition invites a deep reflection on religious syncretism and the daily struggles of the Cuban people.
Inaugurated on September 4th, this exhibition provides an intimate window into the devotion of Cubans, captured through Farías-Nardi’s lens. His images not only reveal religious fervor but also challenge stereotypes and connect us with the stories of resistance and hope that emerge amidst adversity.

The Dominican American Cultural Institute welcomes the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken

Santo Domingo, D.N. (September 6, 2024). As part of his visit to the Dominican Republic, the Dominican American Cultural Institute had the honor of hosting U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken. He had the opportunity to interact with a group of students enrolled in the institution’s English Immersion Program from MESCYT. The event took place at the Lincoln Library and was attended by Vice President Raquel Peña and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Franklin García Fermín, who were welcomed by Mrs. Lucy Threan de Lamarche, Vice President of the ICDA Board of Directors. During the meeting, Blinken learned from the students themselves how learning English contributes to their personal and professional development. They shared their stories and experiences of learning English and how this program has impacted their lives. This dynamic was led by the ICDA academic team.

School of Languages Celebrates Graduation at San Francisco de Macorís Campus for the Juniors Program

On August 23rd, the San Francisco de Macorís campus of our School of Languages enthusiastically celebrated its graduation ceremony for the Juniors program, an event that marked the end of a significant educational cycle for the students and a new beginning in their academic and professional lives.
The event took place at the INFI School campus, with family members, friends, and members of the educational community all eager to pay tribute to the graduates. The ceremony began with welcoming remarks from Mr. Robert Valcin, Director of the School of Languages. In his speech, Mr. Valcin expressed, “The starting point of success is desire, the power of will, and determination. Daily, we witness that when values such as respect, honesty, and a spirit of service prevail, we guide our lives towards achieving our goals.”
Ms. Rut Vargas, representing the teachers, gave an emotional speech highlighting the academic and personal growth of the graduates. Ms. Vargas emphasized the importance of trusting in the knowledge and experiences gained and encouraged the graduates to never stop learning.
The most anticipated speech of the evening was delivered by the valedictorian, Jean Anthony Sierra Florencio. With a mix of humility and pride, Sierra Florencio shared his personal experiences and offered words of encouragement to his classmates.
The remarks from the academic coordinator, Gledis Libert, added a special perspective to the event, highlighting the teamwork and collaboration that characterized the learning environment throughout the program.
The ceremony also featured two notable artistic performances. Professor Sorangel Padilla delivered a moving musical performance that captivated the audience, while Ms. Miriam Lambertus, a member of the Mixed Choir, delighted the crowd with her talented vocal performance. Both presentations added a special touch to the event, celebrating the talent and creativity of the educational community.
